The multitrack session view contains and controls your session. In this view, you can record and mix your complete song.

A portion of the multitrack session view is shown on the picture below. To see this view (in case you are looking at another view), click on View and then on Multitrack View in the menu or click on the multitrack session view button (View multitrack session button) of the view toolbar.

Orinj multitrack session view

Functionality

The purpose of this view is to record and mix a complete song. The following are examples of things you can do in the view:

  • You can record wave files to tracks. You can choose the track to which to record and the input device, from which to record. You can record to more than one track and from more than one input at the same time. You can record a track while simultaneously playing other tracks.
  • You can play, pause, stop, fast forward, and rewind.
  • You can insert existing wave files, MIDI files, and loops into tracks, rather than recording files.
  • You can move, cut, rename, and delete wave, loop, and MIDI files.
  • You can mute tracks, solo tracks, and change the volume and pan of tracks or of portions of the track. You can reorder tracks.
  • You can apply effects to tracks, including delays, compressors, reverbs, equalizers, and other.
  • You can modify effects and apply effects to portions of the track. You can process effects so that they become permanently embedded in the sound data in the track.
  • You can create aux channels, change their volume and pan, and add effects to them. You can also change the volume, pan, and effects of the overall mix (the master channel).
  • You can zoom in or out.
  • You can mix all tracks into a single wave file.

Each of the three types of block in the session – wave, MIDI, and loop – can be modified in their corresponding Orinj view – single wave view, MIDI roll, and loop building. If you make changes to files in any of these views and these files are included in your multitrack session, the changes made will be reflected automatically in the session.

Multitrack session menu

See Orinj Multitrack session menu. The menu at the top of Orinj contains the commands that allow you to perform the tasks listed above.

Marker line, time line, and time signature line

These are the three panels under the menu.

  • Use the marker line to add markers at various points in your session with comments about your session.
  • Use the time line to figure out where in your session you are (at what time position).
  • Use the time signature line similarly. The difference between the time line and the time signature line is that the time line shows the time in minutes, seconds, and milliseconds (if you zoom in that far) and the time signature line shows measures and beats.

Tracks

The tracks take the largest portion of the view, under the time signature line. The actual tracks to the right display audio data. Each track comes with a track control panel, located to the left of the track. The track control panel helps in controlling the track in the overall mix. You can use this panel to change the volume, pan, and existing effects of the track and to show track properties such as volume, pan, dry mix, and wet mix envelopes.

Cursor

The vertical yellow line running through all of your tracks is the play cursor. This play cursor shows you where you are in your session. If you play your session, playback will start from the play cursor. The play cursor will move with the playback so that the notes being played will be the notes right under the play cursor.

Standard toolbars and panels

The following toolbars and panels exist in all views of Orinj.

  • Use the player toolbar to play, stop, pause, record, rewind, and fast forward.
  • Use the zoom toolbar to zoom in and out of your session.
  • Use the current time panel to see the current time (the position of the play cursor).
  • Use the view toolbar to switch between the views of Orinj.
  • Use the pointer toolbar to select the mouse pointers for various operations. Some pointers help you move objects, while others are designed for selection and drawing.
  • Use the view times panel to see time information about your session, view, and selection.

At the bottom of Orinj, you can see the label "CPU: 0%". This is the CPU usage bar. During playback and recording, this bar shows you how strenuous playback and recording are on your computer.
