Orinj Working with waves in the MIDI roll view

This page is for Orinj versions 2 and 3. Versions 4 and above of Orinj do not have this functionality.

Orinj version 3.0.0

In the MIDI roll view, wave files have only one purpose – to serve as an accompaniment to MIDI files. When creating MIDI files, it may be useful to have a wave file and listen to the two together, to make sure the MIDI file has the right tempo, melody, and dynamics. Wave files in the MIDI roll view cannot be recorded, edited, or mixed.

Wave files in the MIDI roll view are displayed in the wave track under the MIDI track.

Short descriptions of what you can do with wave files in the MIDI roll view are provided below. Since working with these is similar to working with waves in the Orinj multitrack session, see Orinj Working with session tracks and Orinj Working with session blocks for additional information.

  • To insert a wave file in the MIDI roll view, click on Wave and then on Insert in the Orinj menu. You will be prompted to browse to the wave that you want to insert.
  • To close the current wave file, click on Wave and then on Close in the Orinj menu.
  • To change the volume of the wave, click on Wave and then on Volume in the Orinj menu, or type the new volume in the volume control (Volume controls) in the track control panel to the left of the wave track, or click on that volume control.
  • To change the pan of the wave, click on Wave and then on Pan in the Orinj menu, or type the new pan in the pan control (Pan controls) in the track control panel to the left of the wave track, or click on that pan control.
  • To change the output device that plays wave audio, click on Wave and then on Output Device in the Orinj menu or click on the Out button (Output device button) in the track control panel to the left of the wave track.
  • To view the audio format of the wave (number of channels, sampling rate, sampling resolution), click on Wave and then on Audio Format in the Orinj menu. You can view this information, but cannot change it in the MIDI roll view. (To change it, open the wave in the Orinj single wave view).
  • To view the frequency content of the wave, click on Wave and then on Frequency Content in the Orinj menu.
  • To view the meta properties of the wave (e.g., copyright info, artist), click on Wave and then on Properties in the Orinj menu. You can view this information, but cannot change it in the MIDI roll view.
  • To view the full name of the wave file, click on Wave and then on Wave File in the Orinj menu.
