Orinj version 3.0.0

The MIDI control line allows you to add, modify, and remove certain MIDI control events – volume, pan (two MIDI controllers), instrument (the MIDI program), pressure, pitch bend, time signature, tempo, key signatureMIDI events that Orinj implements and that are not notes.

In the Orinj MIDI roll view, the MIDI control line is at the top below the menu and right above the MIDI track. The following is the MIDI control line.

MIDI control line

In the picture above, the MIDI control line is set to allow changes to volume controls. In this example, the current MIDI file has two volume controls, which are marked with two red triangles in this line. One of these volume controls is at the beginning. It defines the volume, with which the MIDI file will begin to play. The second volume control appears later in the file. It sets a new volume for the rest of the MIDI file (for a selected MIDI channel). (Tip: It is always a good idea to have volume, pan, and similar controls at the beginning of the file. If these are not there, the MIDI file will be played with the current volume and pan, which may have even been set by some other MIDI file played before).

If you click on the portion that says "Volume", the line will switch to show you pan controls. You can keep on clicking on this portion to switch through the various controls supported by Orinj.

To add controls, click on the draw mouse pointer (Draw pointer button) in the pointer toolbar at the bottom of Orinj and then click on the MIDI control line at the place where you want to add the control. (Tip: You can also click on Event and then on Add Control in the Orinj menu). You will see a dialog that allows you to specify the parameters of the control (e.g., the precise time at which this control should appear, the MIDI channel to which it applies, and its value – for volume, pan, etc.).

To change a control, double-click on it. (Tip: You can also click on Event and then on Control Properties in the Orinj menu). You will see a dialog that allows you to specify the parameters for that control.

To move a control, click on the move mouse pointer (Move pointer button) in the pointer toolbar at the bottom of Orinj and then drag the control left or right. (Tip: You can also use the Event, Control Properties command of the Orinj menu to define the time of the control).

To remove a control, click on it to select it and then click on Event and then on Remove Control in the Orinj menu.
