Transducer

A transducer is a piece of equipment that transforms one type of energy into another.

The term transducer does not apply only to music, but there are many music related examples. For example, the speaker driver is a transducer as it converts electrical energy into mechanical energy – running an electrical signal through the speaker driver makes it move back and forth. The guitar pickup is also a transducer as it converts the mechanical energy of the moving string into an electrical signal.
